Building Confidence…One Spandex Short at a Time

When wearing spandex comes to mind I tend to think of extreme road bikers, volleyball players, professional dancers, that can rock the heck out of a pair of tight ol shorts! Well, hey! What about us  girls who get a little winded after riding up a slight incline on a bike from Wal Mart, or who can’t serve a volleyball to save her life, and dances to her own beat…when I say girls…let’s be honest I am talking about me, but I am sure some of you can relate!

So last week my boyfriend and I took a little escape out of the city to West Virginia to go river tubing. Let me just say whoever invented rivertubing I would like to chest bump and do a jumping high five with. For the possibly two people on earth that don’t know what rivertubing is and believe me I was clueless is literally you are in a tube, on a river, sipping a brew, in a bathing suit, in the sun, living the dream, yes please! So when thinking of river attire my mind does not go to the new Ava & Viv bathing suit that I just purchased.  For this excursion I chose to do more of a athletic one piece and a pair of spandex shorts!  So this post is really not mainly to chat about “what matches best with river trout” it is really about the deeper meaning to these spandex shorts.

I have to confess when rolling up into one of the grocery stores with my spandex shorts on and a tank it felt a bit liberating!  No I do not have a size 6 waist, and my legs are each probably the size of a honey ham, and no there is no “thigh gap”! At first I thought about how I should change into another pair of shorts until we hit the water, but then I stopped and thought, wait who cares! I felt good in them! So ladies the next time you go for that run, hop on that bike, hit up that beach and you want to rock those spandex shorts…do it, work it, love it…you look fabulous! Find this look at Target and see details below!

That Communion Life…

So the last time I wore all white I was just about 8 years old, taking my first communion, that frizzy hair and socks with mary janes. Looking back on those photos makes me cringe a bit and that has probably been why I was not as fond of the white bottom white top…all white everything trend. I mean do not get me wrong I am all about a communion wafer and sip of wine on Sundays, but oh lord no to that lace dress! Feel free to enjoy the comic relief below:

Well now I have upgraded this look a bit and I have hopped on this trend!  The key to this look is material mixing.  In this look I have a pair of lace shorts from NY & Co. for under $40 and a sheer top from Nordstrom Rack for under $20.  If you plan on doing a poly blend, linen, or jean bottom make sure you have a material that is basically the opposite.  Such as a white jean can be paired with a crisp linen or a cotton top can be paired with a linen midi skirt.  If you give this advice a go and are still struggling with the all white add a jean or military style cargo jacket.  In terms of accessories keep it simple with a simple gold or a bold coral works perfect!

Thoughts, feelings, and emotions on this combo…ok and go!

Oh this top? Yes, I got it for $5!

A couple things about me 1. I love me a great sale 2. will always try out new trends 3. love making numbered lists so let’s dive in to this weeks post chatting all about number 1 & 2 with my recent trip to my favorite go to shopping place, Target! When popping over to the ladies section I always make a pit stop first at the sale rack.  Since Target has been really bringing it with their collaborations with other amazing brands also increases their sale selection with a great variety of sizes! So the top that I am featuring I found for $5! Yes…$5….cinco dollores…1.2.3.4.5….yes 5! So not only was this sale on point I also dove into the open shoulder look.  My first concern with this trend, can I get a witness from my pale skinned followers out there, that if I wore this top to an outdoor brunch soaking up that Vitamin D will I be walking around with what appears like 2 pancake tanlines on my shoulders?  Sounds delicious, but this look will for sure need to be for certain occasions.  Not saying that you cannnot wear this top for daytime fun, but lather up that sunscreen babes! So what I love about this trend is when I go out to a restaurant or bar I am usually never a comfortable in between in terms of body temperature.  I am either purple in the lips unintentonally or sweating like I ran a half marathon, in a sleeping bag, in heels.  So just showing a little shoulder to get that air flow in and the long sleeve combo gives me the best of both worlds with fashion meeting functionality!

Do you like this trend for the summer? Comment below!

Summer Trend Alert!

When the word tassle comes to mind I think about a horse mane, then my mind takes me back to the first time that I attempted to ride a horse.  In a nutshell let’s just say I definitely did not wear the right jeans to attempt to saddle up, my hair tie broke mid ride, Cinnamon the horse had severe gas issues, and lastly the horse almost attempt to buck me off and escape into the woods leaving me hair tieless in a mess of dirt and distress.  Other than that traumatic flashback I am all about this tassle trend, so giddy up!

I am absolutely in love with these pop of color statement earrings from Target for under $20!  At first, yes the tassle feature can be a bit intimidating just like the horse I was confessing to you all about, but once on and paired with a basic tee it works!  This pair goes perfect with daytime office casual to weekend brunch.

Are you crazy about this up and coming trend that is making a comeback?
