Let’s talk leather & pleather!

Maybe it’s the Sons of Anarchy episodes my boyfriend has been watching or maybe my inner rebellious side wanting to emerge,  but I was super stoked to post about the newest addition to my closet that I found on consignment for $23…a pleather blazer!  Usually me and blazers are not compadres especially when it comes to the fit in the shoulder area.  If you are in the market for a blazer and have this same issue be on the look out for 100% rayon for the back AND sleeves of the blazer. The details of pleather just in the front  gives that psych you out look of a leather blazer without feeling like you are Chris Farley in Tommy Boy…you know the scene I am talking about. Pairing  with lace to plaid to that spicy crop top, this look can be transitional from the office to “up in the club on a tuesday”(song is always stuck in my head, apologies if it is now in yours)

What do you pair with your leather or pleather?

Wait…I don’t have to wait to wear that little red holiday dress again till 2016?

If you have been blessed with the art of not spilling that champagne you drank on New Years or the shrimp cocktail sauce you had on Christmas Eve on your holiday party dress then this post is for you! For those that were not as fortunate this year (cough cough…like me…cough cough) no fear a trip to the dry cleaner may do the trick.

Featured in the photo is a red poly blend empire waisted pleated dress which also has amazing braided straps.  I absolutely do not want this beauty to collect dust till the next holiday so why not pair it with a tweed or houndstoothe blazer.  Next add basic jewelry or a casual scarf with a ankle boots and hellllllllllllooooooo gorgeous you have an outfit to throw on for happy hour!

Also, since this is my first post on clothing the items that I will blog about will fall in the size 14-16 athletic curvy category.  This blog is not limited to just that size since I get inspirations from women with all different styles and body types! I am a true believer in if you feel fabulous in it, work it girl!

Make a statement this holiday…statement necklace that is!

Since the holidays are upon us filled with joy, love, and quality time spent with family and friends can also include when your mother brings out the embarrassing childhood photos of you wearing gelly shoes and overalls….oh those were the days.  My holiday played out a little bit differently this year and I came across my late grandma’s costume jewelry.  As I sifted through the array of gemmed clip on earrings , brooches, and dazzling necklaces I thought about my last shopping trip at J Crew.  I came across a pair of earrings that literally looked the same as the ones that I held in my hand. Difference was I did not have to pay $40 for the pair that were in front of me.

Then my inner Martha Stewart kicked in and I thought why not remake these pieces into revamped necklaces with brooches attached for a killer statement necklace! Stay tuned for the finished product that is not only at no cost but also holds sentimental value.  Take time this holiday to explore old jewelry pieces with your family…who knows what kind of gems (literally)  that you will find!

Sooooo what does a dreamy realist mean…is that even a word?

Hello there blog world! So this is how it feels to post your first  blog post… No fireworks? Balloons? Channing Tatum jumping out of an ice cream cake? All jokes aside I am excited to jump into the world of starting a casual personal blog on fashion trends, dressing for success, and building confidence… even on a budget!

That is where I came up with the name the dreamy realist fashion blog, I have always been a dreamer but making dreams a reality is what it is all about! I believe that this all starts when you open your closet or for those of us that may pick clothes out of the laundry basket (admit it we have all been there) each morning to get dressed and take on the day, what message are YOU sending out to the world? Looking forward to this new journey!
