Oh hey puff sleeves…

You know that ice breaker we have all come across in group settings, “If you could live in any decade what would it be?” Honestly, my answer usually always revolves around fashion. I try to live my life always looking forward, ya know the whole onward and upward thing. Kind of a life lesson rolled into there with sometimes we dwell on the past and wish we could go back to the way things were and sometimes you can’t. All we have is our memories and that is where you can find comfort and in terms of fashion…find inspiration. Ok pass the the tissue box pahhhhlease and pour another glass of pinot, things are getting emotional in here. Ok back to fashion talk…

I do drool over vintage finds though, but I will say it is hard for me to find those gems in my size when it comes to clothing. Now accessories and shoes is a whole other story. I usually can always luck out. So whats that saying…mixing old and something new wont make you feel blue? Yeah no, I totally just made that up, but feel free to make it your own! With this new awkward moto I just made up that is why I love the vintage inspired touch that Eloquii includes in their collection. Their range can go from classic and chic to unique and edgy with touches of inspiration from all time periods.

This yellow and white floral print dress is channeling a mix of the 80’s with the unique puff sleeve and a bit of the 50’s with the fit and flare cut. Looks can be deceiving because you may think this dress is a heavy material but nope, it is totally lightweight and comfortable. I experienced it first hand since it was about 90 degrees during this shoot with Sarah.

What fashion time period would you flash back to? So sad news, this gorgeous puff sleeve gem is out of stock so here are some alternatives I spotted!

Say Hello to your Solemate!

I was driving somewhere the other day…no joke it is so true how you feel like you lose all sense of time and such during the days between Christmas and NYE…I don’t even remember where I was driving. Also, wasn’t even sure if I made it out wearing the same shoes. All I know is that I could immediately tell you how many naps I have taken and how much of that delicious honey ham I have ate. Hopefully some of you can relate to this and if not…well…this is my life. Anywho, I was driving around lost somewhere and the song “These boots were made for walkin” came on and the idea for this post popped into my head!

In a lot of ads & posts about NYE looks and inspo I see many revolved around the dress, jumpsuit, skirt, etc. as the main centerpiece, which I think is absolutely important, but what about what you dress up those toes with!? I vividly remember the NYE quite a few years back where I did not plan my footwear situation that well in advance and ended up with peep toes in the snow trecking through downtown Chicago! Well, that will never be happening again and I do not want it happening to you my lovely friends either.

Usually when I think NYE looks I immediately think of crazy, metallic, embellished beauties but as said based around the weather I did a round up of a bit of both for inspiration for you guys. Some functional, some fashional, and some just who knows but they are epic!

Will your feet be kicked up on the couch in cozy slippers or dancing the night away when the clock strikes 12?! I will probably have my feet propped up on the couch…with heels on. It’s called balance right?!

After Holiday Looks!

Of course prior to the holidays is evolved all around building the perfect look for your work party, family dinner, and other holiday related events throughout the month and into the new year. Hopefully you all found the deals on Black Friday for that fabulous dress you plan on wearing. For those of you that may have payed a bit more for that little dress that you will most likely only wear once and then it will sit at the back of your closet and then next year you will forget about it and buy a new one and the vicious cycle continues (Phew that was a long thought). Believe me I have been there too!

So for this weeks post I wanted to share with you guys a couple of tips for pieces that you may already have in your closet that can take your party looks to be worn in a variety of ways.

Leather or pleather jackets can do wonders. Paired with even your sparkliest New Years Eve dresses. Leather can tone down any look and give it that more I am here to be casual, but I still want a bit of sparkle. I went for a bold color, but black can usually pair perfect.

Layering under dresses. I have been seeing this trend a lot on Instagram and it is Dreamy Realist approved! For your dresses that are sleeveless you can pair a thin mock neck long sleeve or something that is more on the sheer side underneath that party dress or top. Is perfect for if you are out to dinner and want to take your jacket off and not feel like you are pretending it is 90 degrees on a 20 degree day.

Accessories can make all the difference. Just a change of a pair of earrings can make all the difference in the world with a flashy dress. Keeping the colors and tones more muted can make even your dressiest of dresses feel like just the perfect touch of glam. Even changing out your metallic gold high heels for a pair of suede leather booties and a pair of funky tights can give you comfort and trade out that glitter clutch for a casual leather bag and you are set!

So how many wears are you going to get out of your party dress this year?!

A Journey of a Girl and a Bodysuit

Did anyone else read this title and feel that it is going to be pretty magical? Well, that is kind of what I am going for on this one. As you all may have read in past posts I try and do the ol buy one thing take one piece out to donate or to consign. This eases the build up of unnecessary items that I haven’t maybe worn in years, don’t fit anymore, and helps my closet feel nice and organized.

This year has flowwwwwn by so I have been off my game a bit with this little life hack. So last week I started to take an inventory of just a couple of the new pieces I have purchased this year and honestly it has not been many since my obsession with Rent the Runway has begun.

Anyways, I did a count of the pieces I have remembered purchasing at least within the past year to six months and then started to pull pieces that I did not even lay a hand on for that year. Well, then I came across this beautiful lace embellished maroon bodysuit from Eloquii. I vividly remember buying this to wear on my 30th birthday and of course I got in my own head thinking I would not be able to pull this off so I went with something safe. Ughhhhhh! Come on! What was I thinking! Entering a new decade should be all about going in with a bang and 30 has been pretty good to me so far.

Well, instead of adding it to the donate/consign pile I decided to incorporate it into my next blog post. Here ladies and gentlemen is the final product! I guess what was holding me back was that of course a bodysuit is basically tucked allll the way into jeans, slacks, skirt, etc. and my middle section felt super exposed. Once I got over this self-conscious moment I finally saw how many things in my closet I can pair it with! So if you have been thinking about jumping into the waters of bodysuits here is a few things to remember if you are hesitant:

  1. They actually are super flattering! Nothing worse than trying to tuck your top into your skirt and it looks all bunchy in the front or back. With bodysuits there is that smooth and seamless look without you having to worry it if comes untucked.
  2. It gives you that little bit of spice while still looking classy.
  3. Super versatile! This bodysuit is actually apiece of lingie from Eloquii, but without me telling you guys you probably would not have been able to tell.
  4. Can be worn with a majority of what you already own such as high waisted jeans, slacks, any style of skirt, shorts, etc.
  5. So many different styles to choose from that can fit what you are comfortable in. From super lacey to cotton there is such a selection out there to pick from.

Are you on this bodysuit trend?
