So I hope you all enjoyed that little spin on my last post that was the pt. 1 recap of NYFW chatting about the trends I spotted and how I am recreating them in some of the looks I am sharing with you all! It does make your heart flutter a bit when you see the designers come out at the end of the show to receive an applause and I honestly feel so much joy for them. I’m over here superfanning like “Yasssss way to go! You worked so hard! I want to give you a hug!”

As I was reading some articles about recaps on NYFW I came across this one in Glamour that really inspired today’s post! For my first day hitting the streets I chose a look that I could stay warm in while still making a statement. When outfit planning in reality I would love to wear a giant sleeping bag for those 20 degrees days, but I don’t know if I could make that fashion..or could I?

Anyways I spotted this Navabi pink and faux red fur dream and it gave me the perfect mix of fashion and function. Function meaning it kept me warm! If I got too warm it rested great on my shoulders and made me feel like a queen or I wore it buttoned up when it started to get windy. When it came to the runway I definitely feel like pops of color are here to stay, the bolder the better! Can’t wait to share with you guys how I wear this jacket post New York and back to my regular DC life.

Next, Glamour mentions the new length of skirt that was seen and I agree is the not too much midi, maxi, or mini…just hitting right at the ankles. I sported this style in a sequin skirt. I actually really liked this length! You could still rock ankle or tall boots with it or in warmer weather an ankle strap block heel.

Jewels and gems galore also made a statement on the runway too! Seen on dresses, skirts, accessories, and more. It was like a how bright can I shine when I enter a room. That is wear these gem sunnies came into action. At first I thought they might be too heavy to stay on my face, but they were perfect. I really didn’t need to even accessorize, because I mean…those jewels!

Ok…are you ready?! Ready for what you ask? Ready for me to ask you what your favorite pizza is? Well, no…but that may be a question for a later time. This is my first blog post recapping NYFW that I attended last weekend! This is my third time attending and I will say it is one of the coolest experiences. With the mix of fashion, getting to know up and coming trends, oh and the street style is impeccable! For the next couple of posts I am going to give you guys a recap, but more so to share with you guys looks that I either spotted on the shows I saw or came across in recaps from Harpers Bazaar or Refinery29 of what were the hottest trends on the runways this year. Yes, there were numerous outfit changes, but that is what makes all the fun in the weekend!

One of the first looks I wanted to share with you guys is this dreammmmmmy metallic moto jacket that is from Eloquii. So here is where the inspiration came from on the runway. I had a chance to attend the Flying Solo Presentation and OMG it was phenomenal! I mean the whole vibe of the music, textures, metallics, and pops of color galore made the show that much more thrilling! It was about an hour long and it was a mix of different designers and their collections. I loved how you could see such a variety of styles and looks all in one show. Oh and yes…they played Jolene to close out the show…I was about to faint when I heard Dolly.

So from this metallic dreamboat I read on Refinery29 that alot of zebra and animal prints were hitting the runway too. That is where this comfy Asos midi dress comes in. This dress while still making you feel chic and makes you look like you know what you are doing while staying comfortable.

Refinery29 also mentions that neon is here to stay too and you could definitely feel those vibes on the runway at Flying Solo. Check out these pops of colors below that I tried to mix in with the Marc Jacobs neon crossbody from Rent the Runway.

So this is outside of the usual overwhelming you guys with a full recap of each day. I am going to tease it out a bit through the week as I ease back into the regular routine back in good ol DC. At my full-time job we recently had a chance to get some professional headshots done! It was about time because my LinkedIn profile picture kind of makes me cringe when I look back at it. I totally had this hands on hips power stance with a look that I will probably retire. Oh and of course it was in an awkwardly dim outside space with lighting that did nothing for me shot on an Iphone 4.

After the professional photoshoot was done it really was refreshing to have a photo that I really felt like a boss lady! Now leading up to this process was a bit of a stressful situation the morning of the shoot. Well, for starters my hair definitely has its good days and its bad. When it’s bad it is frizzy, flat on top and fluffy on the bottom, or just is not curling the way I want. It is like taming a lion every morning at times. Then makeup is a whole other animal in itself too. Luckily, I have a ton of friends who are the makeup gurus who can give me all the tips and tricks I need to look like I know what I’m doing. Then it boiled down to what to wear.

At first, I was like ok I have no idea what I am doing with hair and makeup, but clothes I can do! Well, it was a bit more overwhelming than I thought! I didn’t want to do something too loud in print, but also I don’t really own a lot of pieces that are solid colors. What I wanted the photo to represent was a mix of having the photo professionally represent me, but still have my clothing choice express my creativity and personality. So I decided to do a blazer from Ellos that was a mix of a traditional look, but a spin on it with dark florals. I kept it minimal on the jewelry because the jacket spoke for itself! Since my experience was last minute and just thrown together I decided to do the work for you guys on my suggested pieces to wear when you have your next professional headshot. After a bit of debate I have decided that I am going to go to New York Fashion Week again this year! When I am bored on a flight or in a waiting room sometimes I will watch some of the videos I took during the runways shows that I was so blessed to be able to attend twice. No joke, it all felt very surreal that it happened! It was such a go, go, go experience that I felt like I didn’t have a moment to just like take a breath, look around, and be like holy moly I am in NY at an official NYFW runway show! Tell that to my 16 year old self who would drool over fashion magazines, collage my wall with models in elegant dresses and jewels, and had a love for playing dress up with my grandmas old Avon jewelry.  I would have said you are insane in the membrane, that will never happen to me!

It was nice to feel after a year of intense emotional situations that I was dealing with and feeling like I was spiraling it was amazing to feel like I was tipping to the top of the rollercoaster again. Well, buckle up ladies and gentleman because there will be a heck of a lot of NYFW content coming your way next month.

For this post we are chatting about what was one of the many things that I learned during the weekend I attended. Ohhhh the amazing and semi-stressful world of outfit planning. The first year that I went I truly had no idea what to expect. When planning our days and outfits I felt like I was so intimidated by the idea that I will be around so many style icons and fashion forward folks… good lord I was not going to survive! So I went with pieces that were in my comfort zone. Now don’t get me wrong I absolutely loved the pieces I selected, but I learned quickly what NFYW was all about over that weekend.

Well, year #2 I tried to turn it up a bit with a mix of fishnets, faux fur jackets, and wearing a bold lip which at the time I didn’t wear that often.  What I also loved about the street style is that I seriously could not tell if something someone was wearing was designer or maybe they just picked it up online on sale for $10. It is all about the creative ways you style pieces and wear it with confidence. So for those of you that are attending Fashion Week for the first time, take my advice, it is not about the label you are wearing. So before you start going broke before you even get there ordering pieces just because of the name…take a step back. Ask yourself…

1. Is this piece still staying true to who I am?
2. Am I taking my style to the creative next level, while still staying within my budget?
3. Does it give you joy? This one is tricky because it is healthy to try and avoid having physical items give you happiness, thank you Marie Kondo. In this case we can just make it part of the experience of your NYFW adventure!

These sound like silly questions, but outfit planning can kind of put you in a tizzy. Final words, try not to compare yourself to anyone else, be you…because you are gorgeous darling! See you in NY!
