New Red Shoe Review!

A couple of years ago I was driving around with my sister probably complaining about who knows what and then all of a sudden she drowns me out (which I most likely deserved) by blasting the radio saying, “This is my song!” I mean she really knew that chorus line, the rest was a bit mumbled and filled in by impressive clapping of the hands. This song goes a little something like this:

“Hey, I put some new shoes on
And suddenly everything is right
I said, hey I put some new shoes on
And everybody’s smiling, it’s so inviting
Oh short on money but long on time
Slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine
And I’m running late and I don’t need an excuse
Cause I’m wearing my brand new shoes”

With the catchy beat in the background this suddenly became one of my favorite songs too by Paolo Nutini. Well, of course material things cannot buy you happiness, but every now and again they can spark just a moment of joy that can give you that little bit of a confidence boost. Whether it is a first date you are going on, a new job interview, or maybe you have been saving that hard earned money to purchase those pair of shoes you have been having your eye on.

If the above sounds like you, then I have spotted your next pair of new shoes and let’s go ahead and insert “Hey, I put a new top on and suddenly everything is right…” My friends from Ellos sent me this perfect pair that have the look and feel of high end, but are at a completely affordable price.

Meet these low block heel pointed toe red gems that I literally have not taken off of my feet since I got them. Ok maybe I have taken them off to sleep, but I am pretty sure I left them on when I took a nap…long story. I have pretty bad ankle issues from over the years of spraining and twisting them from sports and just the general clumsy moments I have. They give the perfect bit of height that I definitely can wear for 8 hours in my work day or for weekend fun out on the town. Favorite part about this pair is that the color made me smile the most! Just a pop of red can make any outfit feel turned up just a notch. Like you are going from volume 10 on your radio to 17.

When I was putting this outfit together I wanted to have the shoes be the main centerpiece like the turkey at Thanksgiving dinner and the top is like everyone’s favorite side dish like stuffing or mashed potatoes. Since we are on the cusp of warm weather here in the DC metro this floral kimono sleeve blouse felt very right complimenting my red hot shoes. Since we are not as warm yet I decided to give a bit of edge to the florals with faux leather kneed pants that are also from Ellos!

Shop my look below, but unfortunately the pants I bought last year so I gave you guys some cute alternatives. Since I now have the “New Shoes” song stuck in my head tell me what your favorite song is? Bonus points if it includes the mention of clothing!

Three cheers for fringe!

Interests include singing karaoke thinking I sound like a rock star (emphasis on thinking I sound like), trying to perfect the art of cutting sweet potatoes without feeling like I am going to chop a finger off, rollerskating and successfully not falling, and shopping at consignment stores to find unique pieces! Ok so I promise this post is not going to about chopping veggies or me singing 9-5 by my girl Dolly. Today we are focusing more on about the adventures of going to boutiques where you can find the pieces that are literally one in a million, but there is a twist to this post.

In a world where we see a lot of pieces of clothing or accessories on social media that everyone has, it is refreshing when you find that one bag or shoe that you don’t see all over Instagram from a local boutique it kind of gives you that happy happy joy joy feeling inside…well at least for me it does!

Now to share with you all the not so happy happy joy joy side of consignment. Finding the unique pieces of clothing that fit for me is very very tricky. Some shops don’t go above a size L or 12. Now if you all have recs of shops where there is a variety of sizes let me know.

When it comes to shoes, purses, and accessories I usually can strike gold! So with my not so much good luck of finding unique pieces I turned to a place that I know that I can find pieces that will make me feel like one in a million. Now I know Eloquii is not a thrift shop or consignment, but I feel like this fringe skirt vibe would be totally a piece you would spot that feels like you will be the only one for miles and miles to be wearing it! In this case though it is fun to see some of my favorite bloggers rocking this skirt too.

Speaking of unique pieces, our last night in NY we shot a couple of photos in Times Square, which was definitely a unique moment I will remember forever! Yes, Times Square is chaotic and crazy, but it was fun to be surrounded by the lights, billboards, and just overall glow of the city. This photo Arielle snapped of me was probably my favorite out of the whole trip and lets be honest this Eloquii metallic jacket helps too!

Tell me about a unique piece you have purchased lately!

Quilts…but make it fashion

A majority of my posts mention at some point about how I want to wear my sleeping bag to work or how can I make my pillow into a purse that I can lay my head on at any point of the day. Basically, how can I nap and make it fashion. Well, this post is not literally about that but something close! So I spotted in Refinery29 that quilted fabrics are in and all over the runway this season. The shows I went to in NY I did not see it as much, but here is a little example of what I mean.

Since seeing these shots I was like thank heavens I can finally wear some form of blanket in public without actually wearing a blanket. Have I confused you yet? Well, take this Eloquii faux leather quilt textured skirt that I wore for a night out to dinner at Le Song at Chelsea Market. I mean I do love a pencil skirt, but just the touch of flare and the gold studs gave it that edge I needed while still feeling comfortable. I paired this with a body suit, but this skirt can definitely transition to a daytime look for the office paired with a blouse you can tuck in and a blazer.

More recently thanks to Eloquii I become more of a skirt wearing gal. My biggest issue with the fit on skirts with certain brands or stores was either the fit was too tight in the tummy, the hem would hit at an awkward place, or there was just not a selection to brag home about in terms of style and prints. Eloquii has given me hope again to incorporate more skirts into my wardrobe this year. So this skirt I am wearing is not available any longer, but I did a round up of other beauties. From mini to midi and maxis it is sooooo gooooooood! Are you guys jumping for joy on the quilted trend!?

From the runway to the office!

On the train back from NY I got caught in the internet blur of scrolling through photos on Instagram and online magazine publications of the major street style moments from the streets of NY, Milan, London, and Paris. From glitzy hair pins, to monochrome sets, and pops of neon that would make you very very happy was all over the streets! Yes, I was that girl saying “Love your outift” “OMG where did you get that bag?!?!” “Holy Moly you look incredible!” It was like I was in a fashion inspiration overload only to be calmed down by baguette sandwiches I would snag at the corner delis…yum.

Now I wish I lived in a world where in my day job I can show up in a sequin floor length gown with a dramatic over-sized hat and metallic platforms during our morning meetings, butt alas that is not actual reality…maybe one day! So this gave me the inspiration for a post to share with you little gems a round up of dresses from Eloquii that gives you those high fashion street style vibes, but you can still wear to the office!

I picked out this asym hem dress with rib trim dream of a dress for a couple of reasons. Number 1 the mock neck gives that bit of detail that takes the dress up a notch to make it feel more high fashion. Number 2 the hints of striped detail gives that sporty vibe without the hoodie and leggings. Number 3 bright yellows are here to stay! Sometimes yellow all over can feel a bit too springy. So just these simple bright touches can give you those vibrant vibes while still keeping you dressed for the weather, the long sleeves help in 30 degrees! Number 4 the asymmetrical cut on the dress can take you from a casual look with ankle boots for daytime and can transition into an evening look with just a pair of heels! Number 5…well I don’t have a number 5…it just felt weird ending it on number 4. Oh, ok my number 5 is…you need this dress! Follow this link to shop it.

Here is a round up of the pieces I spotted on Eloquii that give you that it looks like I am on the go to a runway show in London or Milan, but in reality I am in commute to my 9-5!
