New Red Shoe Review!

A couple of years ago I was driving around with my sister probably complaining about who knows what and then all of a sudden she drowns me out (which I most likely deserved) by blasting the radio saying, “This is my song!” I mean she really knew that chorus line, the rest was a bit mumbled and filled in by impressive clapping of the hands. This song goes a little something like this:

“Hey, I put some new shoes on
And suddenly everything is right
I said, hey I put some new shoes on
And everybody’s smiling, it’s so inviting
Oh short on money but long on time
Slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine
And I’m running late and I don’t need an excuse
Cause I’m wearing my brand new shoes”

With the catchy beat in the background this suddenly became one of my favorite songs too by Paolo Nutini. Well, of course material things cannot buy you happiness, but every now and again they can spark just a moment of joy that can give you that little bit of a confidence boost. Whether it is a first date you are going on, a new job interview, or maybe you have been saving that hard earned money to purchase those pair of shoes you have been having your eye on.

If the above sounds like you, then I have spotted your next pair of new shoes and let’s go ahead and insert “Hey, I put a new top on and suddenly everything is right…” My friends from Ellos sent me this perfect pair that have the look and feel of high end, but are at a completely affordable price.

Meet these low block heel pointed toe red gems that I literally have not taken off of my feet since I got them. Ok maybe I have taken them off to sleep, but I am pretty sure I left them on when I took a nap…long story. I have pretty bad ankle issues from over the years of spraining and twisting them from sports and just the general clumsy moments I have. They give the perfect bit of height that I definitely can wear for 8 hours in my work day or for weekend fun out on the town. Favorite part about this pair is that the color made me smile the most! Just a pop of red can make any outfit feel turned up just a notch. Like you are going from volume 10 on your radio to 17.

When I was putting this outfit together I wanted to have the shoes be the main centerpiece like the turkey at Thanksgiving dinner and the top is like everyone’s favorite side dish like stuffing or mashed potatoes. Since we are on the cusp of warm weather here in the DC metro this floral kimono sleeve blouse felt very right complimenting my red hot shoes. Since we are not as warm yet I decided to give a bit of edge to the florals with faux leather kneed pants that are also from Ellos!

Shop my look below, but unfortunately the pants I bought last year so I gave you guys some cute alternatives. Since I now have the “New Shoes” song stuck in my head tell me what your favorite song is? Bonus points if it includes the mention of clothing!

Layering up with Ellos!

Hey guys! How is your week going? Do you need a hug, a cookie, a nap? Well, I guess for me I have been feeling all these kind of feelings because it has been like 3 degrees out, yikes. It is so funny growing up in the Midwest and this kind of weather felt like the norm before moving to DC and I am complaining when it is like 30 degrees…come on girl, get it together.

Ok, well now that we have gotten past our daily weather discussion lets chat about the fun stuff…sandwiches! Just kidding, I think I said that because my tummy is a rumblin. Since you are defrosting and making plans on being out and about this week/weekend, what you are going to wear? Well, I was totally inspired by this post from my friend Roxanne of Glass of Glam.  In her latest post she was chatting about how a vest is the perfect third piece to any outfit and how it can really bring a look together that is missing that certain something.  Then it made me really think about how true that really is!

Well, clearly in my pics I am not wearing a vest, but I totally feel like adding a jacket is in this same category. Now when I say jacket I do not mean parkas that are meant for battling the outdoors, but jackets that are perfect for layering and keeping on indoors. Just like this sequin number that is from Ellos! Now I know many of you may think that sequins are only for special occasions, but I feel like when styled a certain way can be worn from day to night.  I kept it simple and just paired all black for more of an evening look, but for a day vibe you can easily pair this look with a white tee, distressed jeans, and ankle boots. For more of a glam vibe you can pair a simple slip dress as well with this jacket.

So here is a round up of other jackets that you can totally do the same type of style with. Which one is your favorite? Also, should I have turkey or ham on my sandwich? (kidding on that last one…kind of)

Finding Your Inner Fashion Diva

Anyone else still daydream? I thought that was something that faded away after you find out Santa Claus isn’t real, but apparently it follows you into the ripe old age of 29! The other day I found myself on my lunch break eating a salad wishing it was a giant slice of pizza and I started thinking about my own personal style.

Now I would consider my style pretty versatile, but my comfort zone is more on the boho chic side. Lots of florals, flowy dresses, and bold earrings are my go-to comfort pieces. I picture my own personal style of a happy hippy babe spinning in circles in a daisy field with the song Peace Train by Cat Stevens playing in the background. Then cut to a high speed motorcycle quickly approaching on the road with Heartbreaker by Led Zeppelin blasting and a girl with a  leather jacket and boots pulls up and whips off her helmet with her hair blowing in the wind looking like the coolest chick you have ever seen. Well, friends that was basically the inspiration for this post.  I parted ways for just a bit with my the flower power gal and traded it in for a motorcycle mama.

So the reason why I share this daydream story with you is that sometimes you need to tune into that inner fashion diva that is wanting to emerge! Of course, I believe that there is a time and place for certain styles, but why not give it a try.  Yes, believe me it will feel scary, but at the end of the day isn’t that what life is all about? Stepping outside your comfort zone to find new and fierce things about yourself that you didn’t know were hiding? Yes, this is clothing, but you never know what emotions it may tap into that can give you that little bit of a confidence boost you need sometimes.

As you start to explore who that inner fashion diva is and how to create that look, I have given you a start. For myself my start was with this amazing faux leather moto jacket from Ellos and it is under $100! Here are some dreamy characters that I created and how you can start these looks with Ellos:
