Spring Looks from Zara!

I went to the mall recently to make a purchase for a sensible heel that would not give me a twisted ankle and damaged pride, but somehow I ended up in Zara. Well, on this trip I experienced what I like to call, “shopping daze.” Anyone else know what I am talking about? You are starving and have resisted getting that Auntie Anne’s pretzel with extra cheese and now you are in a shopping daze finally awaking in the dressing room at a store you did not have intentions of stopping in.  Well, in my pretzel craving hunger daze I found myself in this gingham off the shoulder little ruffle number. At first glance, it was blurry…due to my last pair of contacts getting a bit foggy #truelife #IWearContactsTooLong

Well, after adjusting my vision I fell in love with this top! Not going to lie I did a bit of a Cinderella twirl in it and I also noticed my fitting room drape was a bit open sooooo there’s that…a total adult woman just twirling in a fitting room, that’s not weird, right? So before I checked out I gave the top a second guess much to my surprise.  I thought, “does this top make me look big?” Please insert giant surprise face emoji! It has been quite a while since I have thought about my size and what others would think of me in a piece of clothing, I was equally shocked. The feelings of growing up and hearing, “if you are a certain size you shouldn’t wear ruffles, large prints, and poofy sleeves are not your friend.” Well, it appears I went against a large majority of these rules on this one. In that moment this top felt like more than just a piece of fabric, but it symbolized that sometimes you just need to put that little voice inside your head to bed and enjoy being creative with new looks. I mean can we talk about that little bit of floral detail, mmm hmmm so cute!

How have you stepped outside of your fashion comfort zone lately?

Spring…is that you??

So these warm temperatures out here on the east coast has made me feel like the groundhog was totally playing us!  Six more weeks of winter…psych (kind of).  The minute you bust out your sandals for the day the temp drops 30 degrees and then that I imagine that groundhog pointing and laughing with his evil groundhog laugh about how cold I am. Darn you adorable groundhog!

Well, besides my random rant about rodents I wanted to share how to style some of your spring pieces that you have already busted out of storage that you want to wear now, but the temps may not allow for them yet.  The best way to make pieces transitional is all about layering! I have been totally down with the trend of wearing tank tops over basic white tees, kind of bringing that whole Deliah’s vibe back.  Please tell me you remember Deliah’s, I lived for that magazine every time it came into the mail each month!

So for this trend I took a knit crop top from Current Boutique that I snagged for under $20 and paired it with a sheer bell sleeved red top from Nordstrom Rack underneath.  Making sure you are balancing out this look with contrasting materials gives trying this trend an effortless feel!

How do you wear your spring pieces for winter temps?!

Clash of the Patterns!

So the last time that I attempted a pattern clash was about 1990 when my mother gave me the independence to dress myself and let’s just say I was looking like an adorable hot mess, but nowadays pattern clashing can be a bit tricky. I am a firm believer in wear what makes you feel beautiful and let your creative side shine! So for those of you that want to hop on board this trend train here are 3 easy tips to remember:

1. Florals & Stripes & Everything Nice! This combo is great way to jump on this trend naturally with pieces that are most likely already in your wardrobe.

2. Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize! If you are just on the cusp of this trend then pick a bold pattern for your top or bottom and mix it with a bold purse or neck scarf.

3. Life is better with a lil leather!  If you are choosing to do floral on floral or stripes on stripes a great way to bring the look full circle can be with a leather jacket or blazer to wear to the workplace or for the after 5 club!

For all of my size XL and over size 12 gals out there I stopped into Zara for the first time this week and fell in love with their selection. They have amazing skirts that have a bit of a stretchy waistband and tops that have a bit of give. Accessories and shoes were totally reasonably priced as well.  I will definitely be back again!
