Denim for Days!

Ok, let the jean reference in songs begin…”Billie JEAN is not my lover…”Blue JEAN baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band…”Im a JEANie in a bottle (ok I don’t think that one counts)…”and que the moment when I get out of my trance of googling songs with the word jean in it and lets get to this post talking about…KHAKIS! Just kidding…it is about…CORDUROY! Ok, now it is just getting sad…obviously we are chatting all about jeans. Well, not necessarily the ones we only sport on our legs, but also the other ways we can sport jean aka denim.

Now in terms of how I styled this look it is a triple threat of what could be an upcoming Self-Conscious Chronicle. First of all, I have not always been a fan of wearing jean on jean. Again, with the whole twisted perception of myself in the past I felt like with all this similar material made me appear…oh that dreaded word…bigger. Not to mention that yes ladies and gents that is a body suit that I have paired with these jeans once again! Oh and grand finale if you didn’t scroll to see on the back of this gem of a jean jacket in bold letters it says BABE! If you see my feed you do not usually see me sporting graphic tees or really anything that has any potential for grammar situations. When I saw this jacket at Rent the Runway I was immediately drawn to the furry yellow collar and upon checkout was when I noticed the back.

Well, at one point I had thought this isn’t my style and there is no way I can pull this off! For the sake of my mission on my blog to take myself and hopefully help take you outside your fashion comfort zone I went ahead and posted this. Honestly, looking at photos now I am actually really into it! The babe on the back, yes it is bold, but I think it is the perfect amount of boldness. I guess with posting this it felt like I was following through on a promise to you all when I say yes you can wear that fitted dress, those leather pants, or those statement earrings, or in my case all jean everything. I need to meet you guys halfway too!

So my friend Kelly-Lynne of the Low Low Style Blog also jumped on this jacket too, stay tuned for her post most likely summarizing how we were twinning so intensely in public with these jackets so we could bring you guys some fun content. Now that is dedication!

Decided to also do a roundup of not only just jeans jean pieces…does that make sense? I feel like I said jean a lot. Ok more importantly, what song lyrics am I missing that mention jean in them? Oh and for some reason the linking function to these looks isnt working, but they are all from Rent the Runway, comment if you want the exact links and I can send them to you!

Self-Conscious Chronicles Part 2: Stripes

Welcome to part 2 of the self-conscious chronicles. Today’s subject we will be chatting about stripes. I remember reading an article in probably what was one of the variety of teen magazines like Teen Cosmo or something when I was about 16 talking about what you can’t wear depending on your body type. Which is where the fruit comparisons come in of your body type…now that is a whole other topic that I could go on a rant about, but I will save that for another post.

This article was specifically about if you are fruit blah, blah, or blah you shouldn’t wear stripes because it can make you appear bigger. Flash forward and it cracks me up that when I was in my late 20’s this mindset still followed me with my choices of outfits. Luckily the streak of this silly mindset was broken when the very Parisian inspired horizontal striped tops came into trend a couple of years ago. With just a simple purchase of a black and white striped dress paired with a cargo jacket and man let me tell you how refreshing it was to stand in that mirror and be like “Yeah, I’m feeling this” also what a shame to avoid a trend that can come in so many cute looks like dresses, jackets, skirts, and more!

So if you share this same mindset currently just realize that it is all in your head! With the right pairings of a jacket or accessories can compliment any version of a striped look. For incorporating stripes into your wardrobe I recommend a look like I am sporting below. I am a fan of the larger block of stripes with a variety of colors. The look can just speak for itself without the need to over-accessorize. Have fun with it though! Stripes come in many ways and dwelling in the unique cuts and styles of looks like with a chic wrap dress or a funky pair of high waisted pants is a great way to start. Check out some of my looks below with the variety of styles of stripes I spotted on Rent the Runway which is where this Hutch romper is from!

The Magic of a Little Red Dress

I agree there is nothing better than a classic little black dress. Of course it can be worn year round and is an easy go to. Now I would like to introduce you to a color that can be worn year round, can be perfect for any holiday occasion, and looks fabulous on everyone. No it is not millennial pink…wait, but that is super pretty too. Ok, back on track…I am chatting about red!

Before I grew into my confidence of playing with style and color I despised wearing the color red. I felt like it made me look bigger because of the bright colors that drew attention to areas that I was super insecure about. I literally remember when I was probably around 18 saying “oh no, I look awwwwwful in red!” But why though? I wish I would have considered that question. It is so funny these thoughts that form in your mind of your own perception but in reality it’s a super contemplative color!

Right, I know you are probably thinking “Ok Cath cool post, just chatting about a color…borrrrrrrring.” Sometimes there are times though that I like to show my appreciation for something just as simple as a color on a dress.  Red has so many positive qualities to how it can be worn and the statement that it makes. Most importantly in my opinion it looks amazing on everyone’s skin tone and hair color. Yes, even you gals that have that beautiful red hair…you can sport that red blazer girl!

Even think of holidays and occasions red can be worn for a majority of them like the 4th of July or Christmas of course and you know what why not rock it on any holiday you choose to celebrate! It is also a color that can transition flawlessly from season to season. Whether if you are in that red boho maxi dress in the summer at a barbecue to the cocktail dress that you are sporting on NYE while grooving to Dancing Queen. Note this song is totally in my head because I have recently become addicted to the show Dancing Queen on Netflix. If you watch Ru Paul’s Drag Race…this show is a mustttttt. Of course this blog post wouldn’t be complete without me mentioning a Netflix show that I am currently binging on as I am literally writing this post.

I did a bit of a round up of some of my favorite red pieces that I have spotted on Rent the Runway, which this Eva Franco dream of a dress is from! What colors have you grown into loving…even though you may not have always?

Weekend Recap- Hollywood Casino in Harpers Ferry, WV!

If you had a chance to see one of my recent Instagram posts I chatted with you guys about how casinos as of lately hold a bit of a sentimental place in my heart. A casino was actually the last place my family, which included my Dad, had an outing to for my birthday over a year ago when they were visiting me. Around a month later my Dad passed away. Thinking about him playing all of the penny slots with me and just overall enjoying ourselves gives me a little moment of joy when strolling through casino doors.

With that being said I was super pumped when Hollywood Casino at Charlestown Raceway asked Dani, of Blonde in the District, and I to come to the O.A.R concert two weekends ago in Harpers Ferry, WV! Full disclosure I can easily lose $20 in about 20 seconds on penny slots and I am awful at card games. You better believe though that I love being a cheerleader for my friends who are hitting it big at the Blackjack table or being moral support when they are losing too. Speaking of, I was pleasantly pleased with the variety of game tables, slots, and also the horse track attached!

To recap our visit it was super convenient to get to the casino from our hotel, which if you remember was the River Riders Family Adventure Resort. There is a free shuttle that you can schedule to take you there and pick you up, which is especially convenient if you do not want to worry about driving if you have enjoyed a drink or two with dinner.

There is an awesome variety of food options from getting fancy schmancy at their steakhouse, Final Cut, or if you want to be where the action is there is also the Skybox Sports Bar that overlooks the casino floor. We chose the Skybox and seriously had the best seat in the house. I absolutely recommend their fried pickles…delish! Speaking of food and sidenote, I found out that the casino is hosting the West Virginia BBQ Fest September 1!

Well, I guess it’s not always all about food, well most of the time it is…but also a super exciting addition to the casino is the Sportsbook that is opening September 1 too. Whew what a weekend it will be!

Then of course the main event was the O.A.R concert. What I loved about the venue was its size. It was almost like no matter where you sat in the concert space you still had an amazing view and it did not feel overcrowded. The light show was on point and of course O.A.R was totally a hit…it seriously brought so many memories back of my college days belting out “It was a crazy game of poooookerrrr…” how ironic huh? To check out the full list of amazing events they have happening follow this link, but Sinbad is coming 9/1 and Jay Leno is on 9/15!

Ohhhh and speaking of that, did I mention that I am doing a giveaway that includes 2 tickets to see Sinbad or Jay Leno!? To enter, go to my latest post on my Instagram page (@dreamyrealist_) and I will be announcing the winner Friday 8/24 on my Instagram stories!

So if you are looking for a quick weekend gettaway and you want a mix of the great outdoors and with some night life mixed in Hollywood Casino Charlestown Raceway is only about 2 hours from DC…jackpot!
