Taking the “Sweat” out of Sweater!

When you hear the term “staple pieces for your wardrobe” does anyone else’s mind go to thinking about Milton’s red stapler on Office Space? Staple, stapler…just me? Ok, well now that is out of the way let’s talk about this amazing staple sweater from Target that is perfect for everyone’s winter wardrobe! I am very selective about sweaters that I purchase since I have the sweat glands of a leaky faucet. A sweater that is too heavy can cause a major sweaty…or more like intense glistening situation.

Besides my sweater I have pictured below, I have also recommended some more fabulous options from Target that are fairly priced. The sweater on the left is the best of both worlds, sleeveless and a sweater! This look is perfect for whether you are going out during the day pairing a long sleeve underneath with jeans and boots or a night look with with bare arms, leather pants, and heels. A color blocked open sweater pictured in the middle is great for just pairing a basic tee underneath since the design is so bold and you will definitely fashionably not be feeling the cold! Pictured right, a cold shoulder style gives a bit of something extra especially if you are looking for a sweater for a night out that you can feel casual and a bit flirty at the same time. Pair this with a pair of dark skinnys and suede knee highs and you are good to go!

Women's Longsleeve Duster Cardigan - Simply by Love Scarlett Women's Cold Shoulder Pullover Sweater - Mossimo™

The sweater I am fashioning below is perfect for layering with a leather jacket and a pair of heels to give it a bit of edge or keep it casual with a pair of jeans and boots like I have pictured. So I was not able to find my sweater online, but I did find something similar. Scroll to the bottom for links!

Top 3 Ankle Boot Picks for Fall!

I reflect on the numerous situations where I have rolled an ankle in front of a crowd of people ripping the knees of my tights with blood secretly running down my leg like I was trying out for a horror film or having a heel get stuck in a metal vent in the sidewalk while on my way to get coffee.

Well, now I am taking a break from the sky high heels for the sake of my ankles and my pride.  If these ankles could talk they definitely would have tiny protest signs marching around chanting something like, “we want flats, when do we want them…NOW!” So I have listened to these little babes and I am giving them what they want this fall. So although a bit worn here are my top 3 favorite boots I am sporting this season:

Choice 1: For the casual day look with skinny jeans or a night look with a skirt or dress these ankle boots from Old Navy are the perfect transitional shoe.  With a subtle point gives this look that chic feel and it did not break the bank!

Choice 2: Ok…so I did listen to my protesting ankles, but I had to make a bit of a compromise.  I love the feel of a great heel and I have to admit it gives me a little boost of confidence when strutting around.  This ankle boot from DSW by Lucky Brand is the perfect in between.  This heel can take you from shopping at Whole Foods on crazy Sundays to brunch with the girls! Oh and yes they were on sale for under $30!

Choice 3: Although I did not purchase these this season I guess these ones hold a bit more of a warm spot in my heart since these lasted me from early mornings to late nights on my trip to Paris last year.  I was in no position to be buying new things before my trip to wear because I wanted to spend my money on the experience. So finding these at Old Navy for under $50 was the perfect match. Oh, did I mention they were super comfy, great travel shoe!

Fall Florals…where have you been all my life?

Let’s just start out by giving a shout out to the fashion gods. You have made my wishes come true with mixing the best of both worlds, floral and fall! Yes I get it…in store and online floral is everywhere, but you have to admit this trend is pretty fabulous.  I love how you can rock a floral look on the edgier side with leather boots, dress it up with glitzy earrings, or keep it casual with a jean jacket.  For my ladies out there who are not down with accessorizing then this trend is perfect for you! No need to layer on the necklaces or bangles since the print alone is all the attention it needs.

For this look I am giving you a long sleeve shift dress from Old Navy for under $40!  What I love about this dress is that it is so versatile.  I can wear it now during the beautiful fall weather with bare legs and in the snowy winter months I can pair it with black tights.  Please do not get these prints confused with your grandmothers old drapes, everyone can pull this trend off to look and feel fabulous!

Breaking all the fashion rules while in stripes!

This week I feel like I am on a roll with the #bodypositivity train…choo choo! I promise to not break out into the song, “come on ride the train and ride it, woo woo!” Well, maybe for just a little bit…come on you have to admit this is one of your favorite wedding songs. So not only talking about dancing and trains, but also wanted to fill you guys in on how I also have been feeling a bit rebellious lately as well.  Rebelling against the fashion rules that is! So in the past from reading fashion magazines about tips on dressing best for your body type I have compiled two rules that I am breaking in the same look.  Yes, some advice I can agree with, but others I have a bit of a hard time with.  So, here are two that I have heard one to many times.

Rule number 1:  “Wearing horizontal stripes it will make you look wider.”

I believe that this style tip is all in the eye of the beholder.  I personally do not believe that the pattern on this dress makes me appear that way.  The most important thing to me on this dress was comfort and I felt great in it! So I paired this horizontal striped black and white jersey shift dress with a casual blazer.  This look is perfect for if you have a more casual office setting, but need to keep it professional.

Rule Number 2: “Wearing ankle boots will make your legs look stubby”

Yes, I agree I do not have legs like a giraffe, but I do know what I like in terms of a look of a boot.  Forget about the length of my legs I wanted to recreate a Alexander Wang look on the cheaper side and I did with this Old Navy pointed bootie! Talk about savings and recreating a look in a less expensive way!

What style rules are you breaking?
