Finally Fall!

Anyone else been lately experiencing the feeling of what I like to call “Forcing Fall?” What I mean by this is when September 1st hits we have put our rompers and bikini tops away and have changed our closets to be full of cozy sweaters, scarves, and boots galore. Also, forget about iced coffees…bring on the pumpkin spice lattes! Well, if you experienced anything like how the weather was in the DMV it was literally in the 90’s till like last week. Which on a global perspective concerns the heck out of me that is it this warm in the midst of fall. To give you a proper visual imagine me in jeans, casual sweater, cargo jacket, and knee high boots with warm cider in hand SWEATING as I wander through a pumpkin patch. Smiling and having a ball on the outside, but on the inside feeling like I am literally melting from the heat.

Now that we are in the middle of October the weather has started to shift to its regularly scheduled programming, which I am sure many of you are literally jumping for joy, but be careful when jumping with boots on, that is a rolled ankle waiting to happen!

So to kick off the fall festivities why not celebrate with this stunning multi colored floral gem of a dress from Navabi! Perfect for this transitioning weather which as you note I had ankle strap heels on since at the time of this photoshoot it was 85 degrees!

Also, picture this look with knee high brown leather boots…can you see it?! Yes, so good! Now this is not your traditional tie waisted dress. This dress has the ties on the side and ties in the front to give you amazing shape. One night out I actually unbuttoned the bottom part of the dress and tied it in a knot to wear it as a top with dark skinny jeans and ankle boot heels! Yassssssss for versatile pieces, am I riiiiight?!

Not only this look, but there are tons of cute pieces from the Annalisa Collection from Navabi that I am swooning over, see below and shop my look by clicking this link!

Introducing the Fashun Chronicles Podcast!

For those of you that saw my recent Instagram post you may have checked your calendar to make sure it wasn’t April Fool’s day…alas this is the truth…I am launching a podcast!!!!! If you thought my writing on here can get awkward, well then you are in for a treat when you tune into the podcast for a pleathera of unscripted content because let’s be honest my planning skills are pretty sub par these days.

What will this podcast be about you ask? Don’t worry it will not be a mix of episodes discussing my favorite kind of sandwiches and about my days dressing up as a giant frappacino off of I 65 back in good ol Indiana encouraging drivers to take a detour and get their caffeine fix at their friendly local Caribou Coffee…well now that I think about it…maybe we will chat about that!

On a real note, as you all have followed me along on this blogging journey you already know that fashion has always been a part of my life! Even through the emotional parts of lack of sizing options and role models to look up to that were above a size 12, I still felt like I could express my creativity through an outfit. To be honest with you, through my early 20’s it would have been great to have that go-to resource to get real down to earth fashion advice. Whether it was how to dress for my first interview, brands that offer above size 12 options that are actually unique and stylish, or how to build a wardrobe while still staying in my budget.

That is where the “AH HA” moment came to me in New York when I was with my favorite gals Arielle Lewis, Photography extraordinaire, and blogger babe, Dani of Blonde in the District. We were sitting at Brass Monkey endulging in fries, mozzarella sticks, and champagne (classy combo I know). I was dishing about how I was feeling like I am in a creative slump. Then after dishing back and forth for a bit Arielle and Dani were like why don’t you start a podcast! For a hot minute I was like, ummm I don’t even know how to spell podcast (is it one or two words?!) let alone host one, but then again I loveeeee to talk. My family on the other hand may see this as an annoyance rather than a blessing growing up.

Now fashion should never be taken too seriously so that is why I named the podcast Fashun Chronicles, if you do not know what I am referencing take a peek at my highlights soon and you will see what the heck I am talking about.

Now I will cover a range of topic areas in fashion, but the part I am most excited about involves YOU! Dial into the Fashun Chronicles hotline and share with me your fashion emergency questions. For example you may be transitioning to a new job and the office is more casual than you are used to or vice versa or maybe you are just getting back out into the dating scene after a break up and you need advice on what to wear, let me be your fashion BFF!

So to dial in, listen to my second episode and I am sharing the number there where you can leave a message. I am still waiting for approval on Itunes so tune into my Instagram @fashunchronicles_ and I will let you know there when it is availabke! If the phone thing is not your thing, that’s ok! Send me an email at contactme@fashunchronicles.com or a direct message on Instagram.

Thank you everyone for your unbelievable support I love you all and see you on the podcast, stay fashionable darlings!

Feeling Classy in a Maxi!

The other week my sister was in town visiting and as we made our way down to dinner she made an interesting comment to me. I was wearing one of my favorite and seriously the mosssssst comfortable leopard print maxi dress from Eloquii and she was like I could never wear a maxi dress like that, you are rocking it! Well, thanks sis! On the other hand it started to make me think about who else that may be out there that is not sold on the maxi dress trend.

Her reasoning was understandable, she felt like the ones she has tried on made her look like she was casting for Season 2 of Little House on the Prairie…Prairie Life 2.0…I imagine that is what the reboot would be called. Which I can totally understand her on this! If a maxi is not made with just the right material or cut around the neckline, yes it can give off those vibes.

I will have to be honest it did take me a bit to come around to this trend. When I initially started wearing maxi dresses I felt like I was really overdressed for the more casual occasions I would wear them to. Maybe I equivalated maxi dresses to gowns and gowns you wear for formal events because the length is touching the floor? Oh how the brain works in magical ways to trick you! In reality maxi dresses are the perfect in between for when you don’t want to be rocking leggings, but you also are not wanting to slip on that dress you usually save for your girls nights out. Maxi’s can give you that comfort while giving you that stylish touch. With that being said…it is all about the right ones though. So I did a round up of Eloquii pick’s that I love but the advice I give on each can apply to anyone at any size:

High Slits– This is a must on maxi dresses! A high slit on a maxi can break up the material a bit on the bottom to give you a bit more flow. Also, perfect to pop that little leg out if you happen to take a group pic with your friends…va va voooom!

Wrap Dress– A wrap dress style maxi can give you that perfect neckline. Dresses that have a higher neckline or mock neck can give you that constricting feel. Shows a little, but not too much…perfect balance!

Print or no print?– The reason why you may feel overwhelmed by maxi dresses is because you are slipping into the loudest print! Now I am all about prints, but maybe just start with a basic and incorporate in some simple gold accessories and you are good to go!

Are you on the maxi trend train? Or are you getting off at the next stop? Tell me tell me!

Twirling into Day 1- NYFW Recap!

Not only do I love coming to NYFW for obviously the FASHUN (hope you can imagine hearing me say that in my super dramatic voice), but also I love stepping out of my routine. I have a 9-5 job and blogging on the side gives me these unique moments that I sincerely cherish. Oh and I mean New York…what a beaut…a real beaut Clark…two claps for you if you can name that movie.

So I recapped a lot of what we are going to chat on here on my Instagram stories, but if you are one of those gals that when they see the teeny tiny dots on the top of the screen and you fear it may take over 7 minutes to get through it all I thought I may as well give a little recap here. Average reading time..2 minutes…but whose counting? Oh wait, I am because you boss babe have things to get back to! Lets dive in, shall we?

Day 1 started off on only about 4 hours of sleep, yup was a mixture of feeling like a fashionable zombie running the streets of NY surviving off of bagels and black coffee. Dani and I started our day off with a photoshoot with Arielle. I sported this ASOS Kimono Sleeve yellow fringe situation that made me feel like I was those long drapes at a car wash that clean your car, but I’m into it.

Then we headed over to the Sequin Jewelry showroom to see all of the STUNNING gold jewels and gems. My favorite pieces were the zodiac sign embellished charms, where my Aquarius gals at?!

Oh and Parker shares the same building as Sequin, just two cute little neighbors. So we stopped into their showroom to see their latest upcoming collection. The mix of colors and prints nearly made me jump for joy and awkwardly clap my hands like a baby seal, yes enjoy that visual. Check out their website to see what I mean.

Then flash forward to finishing off the evening at the EDGII Runway Show. Was obsessing over the mix of furs, neon detail, with a bit of edge…see what I did there. I loved how you could see the flow and cohesiveness of the collection, but each piece had its own unique touch. I absolutely love a show that does have a mix of looks that are ready to wear off the runway, which this show definitely included! I mean I do wish I could wear a leotard and fur jacket only in public, ya know maybe one day you may catch me at Whole Foods or the post office rocking that…one day.

There you have it guys…day 1! Even though I had to re-apply deodorant about 12,000 times…it was a success! Oh and the white ankle boots are ASOS too, which gave me the Dolly Parton vibes I reallllly needed to get me through the weekend. Stay tuned for day 2 recap!
