The Magical World that is Rent the Runway Unlimited!

No joke you can ask my friend Ellen who is a connoisseur of Rent the Runway who can literally quote me saying, “No way, I would never use Rent the Runway. They don’t have anything in my size and they only have super fancy dresses.” Yes, it sounds a lil harsh, but I am sure it was stated after a couple glasses of pinot grigio, which is not my most elegant moments.

Well, Rent the Runway you have proved me wrong! I just recently signed up for Rent the Runway Unlimited and I am obsessed. Like the level of obsession that is greater than me binge watching corgis jumping into water…which if you have not seen before in your life…be prepared to laugh, cry, and rewatch again because it is so hilarious. For your viewing pleasure click here.

Ok, so let me back this fashion train up a bit. For those of you that are unfamiliar with Rent the Runway Unlimited here is the scoop. You create an account with RTR and you can select up to 4 pieces at a time. A majority of these pieces are designer too. That includes dresses, handbags, accessories, jackets, etc. you name it! You receive your pieces in a couple of business days and you can keep/wear them for as much time as you want and then when you want more pieces you just ship them back!

It is just a monthly fee so you can keep and return as many pieces as you want in the month, which definitely makes me feel like I am getting my money’s worth. Speaking of that cash money, RTR Unlimited is only $159 per month. Which I know some of you may be like wow, that is a lot! Well, just think about how much you spent on that last dress that was from Nordstrom and how many times you actually wore it. Basically you can get 4 dresses for that one price!

If you can identify with any of the below, you may just need to try RTR Unlimited:

  1. Sizing- Trying to find unique pieces in plus as we all know can be a super struggle. Well my friends they have a whole section dedicated to above size 12 options from casual to cocktail!
  2. Variety– Personally my style changes all the time and I find myself getting caught up in the latest trend only to be having it sit in my closet after I maybe get only 1 or 2 wears out of it. Then by that time you may not be able to consign it and make some of your money back since the trend has passed by! That is literally money down the drain. With RTR I can try out all the trends without having it hurt the ol bank account.
  3. Social Life– Your social calendar is quite full I know! With a year full of events such as weddings, baby showers, birthdays, bachelorette parties having a wide selection of looks for different events at the palm of your hands makes running out to the mall last minute a thing of the past!
  4. Designer Options– You want to wear designer clothes, but do not have the designer budget. Story of my freakin lifeeeeee. Honestly, I would rather book a flight to go on a trip over buying a designer dress or handbag. With RTR Unlimited I can have the best of both worlds! Save money and wear some of my favorite designers that I never thought in a million years I would be sporting.
  5. Sustainable– I love how the idea of renting clothing lengthens the life cycle of these pieces, which is great for mama earth!

Now, the getting real part. With some designers also comes fit issues too. If you are similar to my body type, I recommend going up a size or two as a just in case.  So here are the pieces I have rented so far and I have been super happy about! If you are on the fence about RTR and want to learn more, let’s chat!

Move over Mom Jeans…Jean Jackets are here!

Through blogging I love having my friends, family, and followers picking my brain from what they see on my blog. By no means am I a fashion expert, but I have dabbled enough time in retail (my first job was piercing ears at Claire’s haha) and getting to know my body and what styles work for me I hope I can help someone find theirs too!

From questions of what colors to you recommend I should wear, can you help me find my personal style, could I pull off that new trend…like when chokers made a comeback…don’t ask my opinion on that. I feel like my answer to a majority of questions is, do you own a jean jacket?

My go-to closet advice is basically you should be able to see everything that you own so that you can make the most out of what you own! With that though you want to make sure you have pieces that can be transitional for each season and also that you can pair together to create different looks without having to spend a dime. Simply put, a quality jean jacket with the right fit can do that for you.

So if you are taking this advice to heart my recommendation would be to invest in a classic cut and in a distressed wash. Making sure the fit is not too tight is key so that you can layer depending on the season. Also, a light wash can pair perfect with not only fun dresses, but also a dark or black skinny jean.

Now if you are on the other end of this post sitting there being like “Yeah right Catherine! I am not down with getting on that jean jacket train!” Well, let me break it down for you and how it pairs perfect with:

  1. Any dress any season
  2. Button ups
  3. Fancy fabrics that can make any look more casual
  4. If you are feeling crafty you can bedazzle or add unique pins
  5. Can be worn for a variety of situations whether to work, weekend fun, girls night out, or just running to Costco! I mention Costco because I am hoping anyone who is reading this will tell me they have a membership and I can tag along with them. lol

You have a new match! Or do you…?

Online dating can be compared to my love/hate relationship with this brand of cookies at my local grocery store. I stand in the cookie aisle debating if I should get them or not. So then I do and at first I just have a couple and I feel great. Then I have a couple more and a couple more and then before you know it the whole bag is empty! There I am feeling crabby and in a sugar coma. Then wouldn’t you know the next time I am at the store the cycle continues and I buy them again!

With online dating for me it has been a series of reading in depth through profiles and being very selective…to going on a couple dates here and there…to aggressively swiping because I am just annoyed at how time consuming this is…to going on a bunch of dates with guys and there is truly just no connection…on any level (phew that was a long sentence).

I have been on and off online dating for the past 7 years or so. In the beginning stages of online dating it was almost like you kept it secret and people would respond with, “Oh you are on online dating? Wow! Isn’t it scary?” Now, it is more like “Wait, you are not on online dating? Why not? How do you meeting anyone!”  I have met some very interesting (emphasis on interesting/creepy for some) people from the apps and although things may not have panned out I still look at it as a way to meet a new person and get to know their life a bit just human to human.

So this post is more of a confession rather than a rant about my views of online dating or the guys I have met.  As a body positive blogger I try to keep it well…all positive! Sometimes I have days where it is really hard to feel 100% all the time. Almost a year ago my boyfriend of 4 years and I parted ways. During our relationship that is the most secure I have truly ever felt in my life. More in terms of my self esteem and body image. Yes, when I type that out and reread it makes me cringe a bit, but it is just the honest truth.

Now that I am on a solo journey I am trying to find confidence not through someone else, but through myself which I think is a whole other blog post.  Here is an example of what I mean. A couple of months ago I was at a blogger meet up dinner and one of the gals and I were chatting about online dating. She asked to see my profile so I showed her and asked her to make edits to it and such to make me sound “cool.” She asked me, “Why don’t you use any of the photos from your Instagram and blog on your profile?” My response was basically, “Well they are full body shots of myself and I feel like I get more matches if it is just my face.” Her response was basically, “Girl do you hear yourself! You want to be with someone that likes you exactly the way you are!”

OMG YOU GUYS! I could not believe those words and thoughts had actually come out of my mouth. For real, I do not know who the girl in my head was that said that and I want to tell her to get it together! After this comment I made I kind of tossed it aside and didn’t think about it for the past 6 months. After my 30th birthday a couple of weeks ago I feel like I had a bit of a revelation about how I need to just be me! So I deleted all the awkward cropped photos in my profile and chose my top 5 favorites from past blog shoots. I based it totally on oh how I loved that top or wow my photographer really had me laughing in this shot we must of been having fun! Remembering that online dating is all about quality over quantity has really helped me. I would now rather have few matches and have them be truly gentleman rather than a bunch of matches of guys that most likely did not even read my profile.

Does anyone else ever have these same feelings? If you do we probably need to meet up and have a drink and exchange all of the awkward dating stories!

Day 3-NYFW Recap…the last one I promise!

I am sure you are sitting there enjoying your morning coffee and then a little notification pops up from me in your inbox about my latest blog post! I am also sure that some of you may be thinking, “I swear, if she does one more post about NYFW I am going to flip!” Well, flip away my friends, flip away. I promise this is the last and final post. I have been a major slacker lately since turning 30. Yes, I am blaming turning 30, not that I have poor planning skills. Anywho, here is my recap on our last day in New York which I wish I could take a time machine and relive again, but maybe minus the rain and the frizz level that my hair took on.

This last day was my favorite because we were able to pack in 3 shows! We started off the morning at Dan Liu, which if you guys remember last year at his spring/summer collection the models had peacock feathers on their eyebrows strutting down the runway, which was insaaaaanely cool. This year was a 007 theme, which I loved the vintage esque vibes that were super chic.

After the show we took a quick coffee run and then met the amazing and talented Maxey Greene. She is this total babe who models and is a photographer, I mean what a dream! We shot with her in Soho and let me tell you she made me feel like a million dollas. She posed me at angles that really brought out the details in my look and personality. My main photo in the post is all her magical work!

Then we headed to Helen Anthony’s show, which was a collection filled with unisex looks. I loved how each piece could seriously be worn or styled for either gender. This prints and color scheme was so on point too. Ugh! So sorry these photos are all so blurry! I took a ton of videos that you can see on my story highlights on Instagram though.

After that we headed to Ex-Mermaid. Now talk about a glimpse into what my dreams looks like sometimes with amazing neons colors and unique details to each piece that felt like it told a story, seriously fantastic! Also, I loved how they brought out all the looks first, then each model came out individually.

Once fashion week was a wrap we attempted to be cool and go party it up, but yeah that only lasted a couple of hours and to be honest I think Dani and I were both more excited about pizza and sleep. Ok that’s a wrap…until next time NYFW!
