Fashionably Powerwalking into Day 2- NYFW Recap!

My deodorant has worn off, I have only had a piece of gum to eat in the past 8 hours, my feet feel like I have been walking with bricks on them all day. Nope…was not on a diet…was not training for a marathon…this was how I felt at the end of day 1 of NYFW. Ok, I am being superrrrrrrr dramatic, but ya know…that’s what we do around here.

After getting a bit more sleep we started off day 2 with a little bit more pep in our step! I slipped on this this little sequin midi skirt number you all may have remembered (or maybe you had no idea, because you have a life) that I wore this past February for NYFW, but it is such a perfect statement piece from Asos that didn’t break the bank. Now I know for balance if you have such a bold piece you should…emphasis on should…pair it with a basic top or jacket. Well, when in NY…a cropped leopard print moto jacket from Eloquii and white ankle boots from Asos felt right.

The two shows I saw were definitely on the opposite sides of the style world, but that is what I love about fashion…so much variety!

First show up was Damowang with a mix of relaxed earth tones, prints, and a pops of color definitely put me in a mood to incorporate oversized blazers and more trench inspired pieces into my life!

The second show, I Love Pretty, was a whole other moooooood! Well, the playlist was completely amazing…where can I burn a CD of that mix? Also, can you even burn CD’s anymore? I feel old. Now how do I best describe this collection. It was like 80’s punk meets hospital inspired glam? That sounds very confusing, but seriously I just need to let the pieces speak for themselves, check out their Instagram page! Hands down was one of the best shows I have been to!

After that show, we actually had a bit of time to sit, relax and enjoy brunch at Maman Tribeca with the hustle and bustle it was nice to sit down and enjoy the moment with a cup of coffee and a pastry…ok maybe 2 pastries…ok fine it was 3!!!!

We ended the night trying to get into the Flying Solo Presentation, which was my absolute favorite last year! Due to capacity, we weren’t able to get in, but after a nightcap at the Brass Monkey in the Meat Packing District I would say cheers to a successful day!

Twirling into Day 1- NYFW Recap!

Not only do I love coming to NYFW for obviously the FASHUN (hope you can imagine hearing me say that in my super dramatic voice), but also I love stepping out of my routine. I have a 9-5 job and blogging on the side gives me these unique moments that I sincerely cherish. Oh and I mean New York…what a beaut…a real beaut Clark…two claps for you if you can name that movie.

So I recapped a lot of what we are going to chat on here on my Instagram stories, but if you are one of those gals that when they see the teeny tiny dots on the top of the screen and you fear it may take over 7 minutes to get through it all I thought I may as well give a little recap here. Average reading time..2 minutes…but whose counting? Oh wait, I am because you boss babe have things to get back to! Lets dive in, shall we?

Day 1 started off on only about 4 hours of sleep, yup was a mixture of feeling like a fashionable zombie running the streets of NY surviving off of bagels and black coffee. Dani and I started our day off with a photoshoot with Arielle. I sported this ASOS Kimono Sleeve yellow fringe situation that made me feel like I was those long drapes at a car wash that clean your car, but I’m into it.

Then we headed over to the Sequin Jewelry showroom to see all of the STUNNING gold jewels and gems. My favorite pieces were the zodiac sign embellished charms, where my Aquarius gals at?!

Oh and Parker shares the same building as Sequin, just two cute little neighbors. So we stopped into their showroom to see their latest upcoming collection. The mix of colors and prints nearly made me jump for joy and awkwardly clap my hands like a baby seal, yes enjoy that visual. Check out their website to see what I mean.

Then flash forward to finishing off the evening at the EDGII Runway Show. Was obsessing over the mix of furs, neon detail, with a bit of edge…see what I did there. I loved how you could see the flow and cohesiveness of the collection, but each piece had its own unique touch. I absolutely love a show that does have a mix of looks that are ready to wear off the runway, which this show definitely included! I mean I do wish I could wear a leotard and fur jacket only in public, ya know maybe one day you may catch me at Whole Foods or the post office rocking that…one day.

There you have it guys…day 1! Even though I had to re-apply deodorant about 12,000 times…it was a success! Oh and the white ankle boots are ASOS too, which gave me the Dolly Parton vibes I reallllly needed to get me through the weekend. Stay tuned for day 2 recap!

Sister Epic Giveaway!

It is so easy to get caught in the routine when it comes to shopping. You need an outfit or accessories for a party, you go to the mall or online to get it. The cheaper or discounted the better and if the fit works I am all about it. What I do not always do well is take the time to stop and think about how that product got into my hands, what journey did it take before me? Now I guess this is a call out to myself because I never stop to think about these things. Lately I have been trying to become more informed about companies and how their production practices are. I still have a lot to learn to transition into a more sustainable way of fashion, but I do feel like my use of Rent the Runway and only purchasing items that are not just one time wears will decrease my footprint on the environment.

Also, I do feel like another step in the right direction is purchasing products made by a person that you could call up and sit down and have a coffee with like my friend, Adrienne, who is the owner of Sister Epic. What is Sister Epic you ask? Well…sit down…kick your feet up…put on your favorite record and lets get to chatting.

SISTER EPIC is the luxury leather handbag line by Adrienne Guariglia. The designs are formed on paper and brought to reality, by hand, in Pittsburgh, PA. A balanced influence of geometry, minimalism and captivating textures are factors that unify and define our collections.”

Now isn’t that just a mission statement that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy?

But seriously the quality of these handbags are impeccable, the style is so unique, and I love a handbag that feels like it is part of the look so you don’t feel like you have to accessorize. BEST part is that these bags are all hand made and designed by Adrienne and it is so fun to see the behind the scenes moments on their Instagram page as she makes these little creations. Kind of gives you a moment to slow down and enjoy the art of how purses are made. I mean lets be honest the purse plays an important role in your day, that little baby follows you everywhere!

Now the really really reallllllly exciting part, I am doing a giveaway for one lucky winner to receive this adorable Lulu Iridescent Cardholder and also you will get a $50 credit towards your purchase of any Sister Epic items! How to enter is on my Instagram page, so make sure you pop over to @dreamyrealist_ for details!

Will you go to Prom with me?

I had such a vivid dream the other night that I flashed back to my high school prom. I don’t really remember a lot of the details of the dream, but it did give me a bit of inspiration for this post. Speaking of prom, what was your dress shopping experience like?

Well, thinking back on mine about 14 years ago…wow…that is over a decade ago! I only went to formal and prom senior year so when I went dress shopping I was ready to finish off high school with a bang! What was not so much of a bang was the stress of finding a formal gown that fit properly, in my budget, and also something I felt like a movie star in! My experience was one where I only was able to fill maybe only 1 of these 3 categories.

My search started at the mall and the options were so limited I had to find myself in the mother of the bride section at JC Penney, which for a 17 year was not where I wanted to be seen. Then my Mom and I would venture closer to the city for the more boutique style places where there would only be a handful that would fit and the ones that I did like basically costed the equivalent of a wedding dress!

I do wonder if I had the options and access at my fingertips to formal wear like there is now, what would I have chosen? So, here is a round up of formal wear websites that you can share with your daughter, niece, cousin, or maybe you may be an adult needing a gown for your next formal event. Saving you time, stress, and money is what I am here for! Also, I selected looks that I think my 17 year old self would have fallen head over heels for!

So my sequin dress is by Badgley Mischka from Rent the Runway and my clutch is handmade by this amazing company, Sister Epic! Check out on my Instagram (@dreamyrealist_) for how you can enter to win one of their gorgeous hand made leather wallets!
