Recipe for a Vintage Inspired Look!

As the holidays approach us I am sure you have all been flooded with invitations to jingle this, mingle that, and theme parties galore. I live for this time of the year! I love putting on a bit of sparkle, busting out the red lipstick, and getting a serving or two of a gingerbread martini.

One of these fabulous parties I attended last month was with the ladies of DC Bubbles & Bloggers! This is a group of smart, stylish, and savy women of the DC metro area that get together once a month to idea exchange and overall just support one another in this crazy thing we call blogging! It is hosted by the amazing Dani Benner Sauter aka Blonde in the District go follow her, you won’t regret it!

This months theme was all about vintage.  Now I am a consignment lover, but unfortunately as I peeked through my closet I did not have a thing that was vintage that was appropriate for the cold weather! It was to late to raid the closet of my friend and vintage queen, Ellie B on a Budget, so I was on my own.  Instead of breaking out in cold sweats I dived right into my closet with the “think vintage” mindset.  Now if you find yourself in a similar situation like me just follow this recipe:

Step 1: Add 1 cup “floral”

When I think of vintage I think of heavy colors on light material.  So that is where this amazing little Who What Wear mock neck dress comes into play.  The sleeve detail also gives this victorian esque flavor.

Step 2:  1 tbsp of Fur, fur, and more fur.

An obvious vintage go to is furs! Weather it is a jacket, scarf, or detail on a pair of gloves this is a perfect addition to a vintage look.  Mine is a faux vest from Target that I got last season and it is still in great condition!

Step 3: 1/2 tsp. of accessories. Don’t forget about the gems!

I think my love for accessories all started with me sifting through my grandma’s old Avon jewelry with the embellished pendents and glitzy statement necklaces.  If you are in a position where you don’t have those items on hand just fake it! I chose a simple studded earring, that still gives that vintage vibe. Unfortunately, I do not have the direct link for you to shop this earring, but click the image to be linked to the Len Instagram page to see their selection.

Step 4: Mix together and give a twirl!

Never judge a dress on a hanger…

At first when looking on the hanger at this Who What Wear Collection dress at Target in the sale section I thought “ohhhh this screams the Sound of Music!”  Unfortunately, I do not have the vocal range or elegance of being able to spin around glamorously in a field of greens without getting nauseous and falling flat on my face.

Even with these thoughts in mind I gave a shrug of the shoulders and headed to the dressing room. Boy, was I wrong in thinking this was a look that felt dated!  I love the flow of this dress and the sheer material gives it a bit of a playful vibe!  Considering the cut of this dress is short sleeved and cut at mid calf I wanted to give this look a bit of an edge so I added my Steve Madden ankle boots that have a tassle zipper detail in the back. If you are not feeling on the edgier side this look can pair great with flats, wedges, or a military style jacket.

Lesson learned that you should never judge a dress on a hanger!

Dress: Target, Who What Wear Collection, on sale under $20

Oh Hello Autumn!

As I awoke last week and opened my newsfeed I saw posts of pumpkin, plaid, pumpkin spice, and all things fall! Happy first of Autumn everyone! As I leaped (more like sluggishly crawled out) out of bed to get dressed my first thought was yesssss time for boots, sweaters, and all things cozy! As I slipped on my jeans, suede booties, and sweater to hop out the door and start walking to my car it looked like someone poured a bucket of water on me was how much I started sweating. Note to self, even though it is the first day of Autumn the weather can still be a scorching 90 degrees! So this post is dedicated to my gals out there who want that fall style, but want to feel literally “cool” in this warmer weather!

The look I am giving you is a sweater dress with a partial higher neckline, a sleeveless trench vest, and black pleather booties.  The sleeveless sweater dress is a great staple piece for your closet since it gives you the feel of fall and this can transition perfectly when it is colder pairing with a leather jacket or high boots. At first, the trench vest felt a little hard to pair with different looks, but I got some inspo from the Who What Wear Collection Instagram! It can also pair great with jeans and a black tee as seen in my post last year.

So I know what you are thinking that the fashion gods may frown upon me for wearing a midi dress and I am wearing ankle boots which will make my legs appear “shorter.” To be perfectly honest, I felt great in this look and that is what matters! Forget the rules, wear what feels good!

What are your favorite trends you are looking forward to this fall? Let’s start the convo, comment below!

Part 2- Weekend Dress Ready with Michael Kors

Part 2, part 2, part 2…hooray for part 2 on what was my favorite work dress by Michael Kors has also turned into my favorite weekend dress as well! I would like to think this was because I am a skilled magician, no it is just that Michael Kors is a fashion guru and made this look happen.  So if you read my post last week you should be well versed in my obsession with the versatility and detail of this dress.  Also, the poly blend material is perfect for transitioning from a day to night look.  So unfortunately the looks I got below were on sale and are not currently on those brands websites so I linked below pieces that you can recreate this look!

What are your favorite brands that transition great from day to night? Comment below!
